While addressing the conclusion of Platinum Jubilee Year celebration of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) at Vigyan Bhavan on Tuesday the President Ram Nath Kovind has also said we have to take accelerated steps to promote the participation of girl students and of women in science and technology for development of New India.
He was appreciated the innovation of CSIR and said CSIR constitutes only about three to four per cent of India’s scientific manpower – but contributes nearly 10 per cent of India’s scientific output. This is extremely creditable and emphasises how important CSIR is to the nation building process. When a scientist works hard in the lab, with integrity and sincerity and with the larger dream of helping society, he or she is playing the role of nation builder.
CSIR’s anaerobic digester is making a big difference to the Swachh Bharat mission, as it converts biodegradable kitchen waste to biogas and manure that can be used for family kitchen gardens. Each anaerobic digester has the capacity to convert up to three kg waste per day and produce 400 litre of biogas, which can be used as a clean fuel the President asserted.
Ram Nath Kovind also presented various awards to the scientists of CSIR at the Foundation Day of CSIR and Celebration of conclusion of CSIR Platinum Jubilee Year. Eminent Odia Scientist Dr Surendra Kumar Biswal of Institute of Minerals and Material Technology, Bhubaneswar was conferred the CSIR Technology awards for his team efforts on Technology for recovery of iron values from low and lean grade iron ore resources in India.

‘CSIR Technology Awards’ were instituted in 1990 to encourage multi-disciplinary in house team efforts and external interaction for technology development, transfer and commercialization.These awards are in the category of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences including Engineering & Innovation and Business Development and Technology Marketing. The awards is carry the cash prize of ₹2 lakh each.Technology Award for Business Development and Technology Marketing is for making significant contributions for enhancing the business of CSIR knowledgebase and will be given for the new business & marketing initiatives, strategies evolved and implemented, quantum of business generated and realised.
The Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Shri Y.S. Chowdary and the DG, CSIR, Dr. Girish Sahni were among the dignatory attended the function.
