In a thrilling start to their IPL 2025 campaign, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased a formidable batting display, securing a 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

SRH’s Batting Brilliance

Opting to bat first, SRH’s innings was ignited by the explosive opening partnership of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who amassed 94 runs during the powerplay. Head’s aggressive approach was highlighted by a colossal 105-meter six off Jofra Archer, underscoring his dominance at the crease.

The spotlight, however, belonged to Ishan Kishan. Making his debut for SRH, Kishan delivered an unbeaten 106 off just 47 balls, marking his first IPL century. His innings were laced with 11 fours and six sixes, propelling SRH to a formidable total of 286/6, narrowly missing the highest team score in IPL history.

RR’s Valiant Chase

Facing a daunting target of 287, RR’s chase began on a shaky note, losing key wickets early in the innings. However, Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel mounted a spirited fightback. Samson’s 66 off 37 balls and Jurel’s 70 off 35 deliveries kept RR’s hopes alive. Despite their efforts, the escalating required run rate and disciplined bowling from SRH, particularly by Harshal Patel and Simarjeet Singh who claimed two wickets each, curtailed RR’s momentum. The visitors concluded their innings at 242/6, falling short by 44 runs.
