Vignesh hails from a humble background. His father, Sunil Kumar P, is an auto-rickshaw driver, and his mother, K.P. Bindhu, is a homemaker. He is the youngest among five older brothers. Vignesh completed his schooling at GMHSS Perinthalmanna and pursued higher education at GEMS Arts and Science College, Malappuram. He is currently working towards an MA in Literature at PTM Government College, Perinthalmanna, as of November 2024.

Cricketing Journey

Vignesh’s passion for cricket ignited at a young age, playing with neighborhood children. Initially experimenting with medium pace and spin, he was advised by local cricketer Mohammed Sherif to focus on leg spin. At 14, he joined the Malappuram District Cricket Academy, where coach Vijayan mentored him in left-arm wrist spin. His dedication led him to represent Kerala in various age-group teams, including Under-14, Under-19, and Under-23.

Domestic Career

In 2024, Vignesh played for the Alleppey Ripples in the inaugural Kerala Premier League (KPL), taking two wickets in three matches. His performance caught the attention of Mumbai Indians (MI) scouts, leading to trials where he impressed head coach Mahela Jayawardene. In the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, MI acquired Vignesh for his base price of ₹30 lakh.
